A domain name represents your virtual address. In the same way as you have a physical address where you live the virtual address represents the address of your web site.
Let us look at how a typical domain name will look. The very first part is the www which represents the world wide web. The next part represents your business name. The final part represents the organization type. You get different types such as .com which is a normal business, .edu represents an educational institution, .gov a governmental institution and .net a network. Usually if your .com domain name is already taken then you can use a .net domain name in its place. Recently some extra extensions have also been added like the.info which indicates an informational web site and the .biz which indicates a commercial business entity.
So let us look at the main reason why you should seriously consider getting one. For me a domain dame represented a business entity. It was always my dream to work for myself. With the frequent downsizing and retrenchment in companies many people are beginning to start their own home based business.
However, once you start your business the learning curve is very steep. You need patience, discipline and focus to succeed.
Basically their are four steps that you need to master. First is that you need to choose a profitable niche. You then need to learn how to drive a large amount of traffic to your web site. You also need to learn how to build an opt in list that you can market to over and over again. Finally you need to be able to write good sales copy for email and sales letters.
